1. For the Drumdry cover to work effectively, the silica gel needs to be periodically regenerated (dried out). To assist the user in determining when this needs to be undertaken, a system has been devised whereby the condition of the silica gel can be viewed externally. By using colour indicating silica gel in one of the compartments and looking through a transparent window, it can easily be seen whether the cover needs drying or whether it has fully dried out after recharging.

2. In the new version, a method of securing the cover to the top of the drum using Velcro will be adopted. There will also be slits in the skirt of the covers so that they should fit on a wider range of drums including congas and peg tuned drums.
